A house evolves at pace with the occupants, it too shares a story. The walls speak of its occupants and the millions of untold stories that it has seen unfolding by, but alas, as everything ages, so does the house and it too needs to evolve and go through a makeover. Such is the story of this house.

The homeowners with the need to cast a new life into this abode found their perfect match with Ar. Hardi Mehta, whose vision and ability to concoct ideas into reality are unparalleled.

“We’re always told it is what’s on the inside that counts, but more importantly, architecture needs to be built around those who dwell inside. It can affect and influence our emotions and perceptions through factors such as space, light, and geometry, right down to the same materials used in its construction. We started with the master bedroom first, as it was the epicenter of the house. The whole layout of the house was built from inside out,” says Ar. Hardi Mehta.

The spatial flow and symmetry of this apartment is inspiring, to say the least. The moment you enter the house, it welcomes you into its comfort, a task in itself as luxurious spaces are known to feel inaccessible. The way this house espouses functionality with flow feels natural. The layout of the rooms and bedrooms with attached suites doesn’t cloud the space, instead opens it up for a plethora of functionality.

Moving to the Master bedroom, the nucleus of the residence was kept austere yet luxurious. Washed in a basic color palette adorned with earthly textures and accentuated by grey, green & yellow. The bedroom generates a feeling of luxury in itself. The bedroom has a private seating area with a skylight which keeps the room naturally lit throughout the day.

The crux of this room is the wall behind the bed the sublime bright shade of blue is adorned with black and white pictures on it and teak wooden panelling on the opposite side holds the whole bedroom together. The attached seating area is covered with bright colourful Moroccan wallpapers. The ivory tone of the PU paint is an addition to the richness and combines well with the leather headrest.

The second bedroom, with its motif of oak wooden paneling and grey leather paneling on the side walls, gives the room a rich, creamy tone. The regal blue backrest for the bed and the sliding painted glass hide the window behind the bed while keeping it accessible anytime the client wants to freshen up and light up the room. The attached seating is decorated with colourful pictures to contrast the bedroom.

The living room, with its luxurious sofa, embraced by the blue carpet and cushions, feels warming and welcoming. The highlight is the painting adorning the wall, which breaks the tonal integrity of the room. The room has ivory and beige earthly hues which is recurrent throughout the house and are peppered with colours that stand out improving the aesthetic value of the space.

Overall, the design and aesthetics marry each other very harmoniously, generating a flow amongst the aspects of controlled design and execution. The organic growth of the spaces, the color palette, and the selection of the furniture are the highlights that help us understand that organic architecture seeks a super sense of use and a finer sense of comfort.

    Introduction

Located in Adajan, an upcoming bustling suburb of Surat, is the Kapadia House. The interior design and planning of the space are done by Bdesign24, spearheaded by Mr. Bheru Jangid and associate designer Shruti Agarwal. The client’s brief was to create a budget-friendly luxurious home for his family and himself.

    Bdesign24’s Interior Design

The main entrance introduces what becomes the design theme for the rest of the apartment. The design details are clean and minimal; having an understated finesse in their finished state. The first important space of the home is the temple room. Carrying forward the theme, it is furnished in shades of gold and beige, complimented with ivory. This is a meditative space wherein the main wall has an “Om” symbol, further sanctifying the space.

The main living space is sparsely furnished with a muted colour palette, predominantly in light grey. The TV wall has a tropical patterned wallpaper, giving a fresh look to the otherwise plain walls of the space. Furniture pieces in black and gold complete the look of the space. The living room leads to the kitchen & dining area and the four bedrooms of the apartment. The kitchen is furnished in greys against whites, almost achieving a utilitarian look. In contrast to the kitchen but yet maintaining a balance, the dining area is completely done in white, the obvious highlight being a chocolate brown PU upholstered dining set with a checked, quilted pattern.

This sets it apart from the rest of the metal furniture in the other spaces. The open plan of the apartment allows easy movement between spaces and also helps maintain visibility. The furniture facilitates this idea rather than being an obstruction. Another interesting aspect of interior design is the clever yet underplayed effect of the selection of the artworks and installations displayed across the home, including living and sleeping spaces.

The master bedroom is tastefully outfitted with Armani brown polished Italian marble on the headboard wall. The opposite wall has a plaid texture in dark beige, breaking the monotonous look of the room. The son’s bedroom is harmoniously designed in powder blue-grey walls with veneer panelling edged in wooden patti; its effect is magnified by the usage of minimal gold & black accented shelves for storage. The usage of glass for wardrobe shutters amplifies the lightness of the design.

The parents’ bedroom is done up in soft beige and pale brown, with a horizontally grooved wooden panel accent on the headboard wall. A similar panel with thinner lines is used for the opposite wall, lending a soft appeal to the otherwise sparse room. Hanging globe lights in an oblong gold holder completes the look.

    Project Description

The 890 Sq.Ft. 19th-floor Mumbai-based apartment is owned by a small family living in the very fast-moving, chaotic, and busy urban settlement of Mumbai. The clients wanted a space that would be light & airy, chic yet simple, modern yet uncluttered. A place they could be comfortable in and yet have a feeling of pride. They wanted the space to have an ample amount of storage and multifunctional furniture.

They envisioned a space that is simple and once entered into would make them forget about the hustle-bustle outside and reconnect their lives with a calm, cozy, and colorful surrounding.  It had to be a breathable, liveable space that included a high-end touch of creativity, a play in fabrics, metal, wood, and pastel colours.

The home has been designed with a minimalistic theme, but the materials were used in various textures to ensure there was creativity, definition, depth, and interest alongside the simplicity that the space exudes. It had to be an amalgamation of minimal, modern, Scandinavian, and boho design with an orchestra of vibrant yet subtle colours with free-flowing shapes which are balanced with hints of straight lines wherever required.

Nayak's Residence: Interior Design Project by Studio Aiza The Nayak's home is a journey of colours that creates a feeling of awe starting from the entry wall. The Terracotta coloured arched safety door, with the bold nameplate brings in a sense of free flow to the entrance. It is perfectly balanced with the Lord Ganesha idol placed in a circular stamp to the right and you feel the blessing extended to everyone who enters the home.

As soon as you enter through the grand white arched door, you see the poetry of shapes, colours and finishes. You are welcomed with a long rustic finished mirror that reflects positivity. Adjacent to it is the very thoughtfully designed and placed arched shoe unit dipped in light peach colour and a hint of white on the arched seating in it.

The living room of this home is a visual treat of design, planning with bold shapes, pastel colours, and minimal design. The main highlight is the arch at the entry that adds an energizing yet subtle aura, bringing a minimal yet grand entry into the whole space. The ceiling had fire hydrant pipes which have been cleverly masked with a peach coloured modern cornice, uplifting the character of the living room.

The TV unit wall is accentuated with a large peach inked semicircle merging in harmony with the dark wood panelling, adding a hint of Scandinavian design to the space. The white walls all over soften the interior, the wood and veneer add warmth to the space.

The solid wall between the living room and kitchen was replaced with a glass partition that also works as a serving window for the intimate matte white dining table. The glass adds to the character of the living room by drawing in more light from the kitchen, hence making it airier. The cleverly placed counter adds a very important utility of an informal breakfast or dining table, hence providing a corner for individuals to have profound conversations filled with fun, laughter, and zest.

The clients have a love for reading.  Their brief asked for a cosy reading corner. The vibrant green L-shaped seating is a house to two large shelves above for storage of books. The seating is designed as a pull-out bed for extra sleeping space for guests.

The living room connects to the passage that leads to the bold kitchen and beautiful bedrooms. The bedroom doors have been carefully crafted into smooth arch shaped masterpieces by our inhouse carpenters. The old sag wood is used for enhancing the beauty and also giving the doors a better life. The door frames are kept natural to showcase the beauty of the timber used and the shutters are decorated with linear engravings and are coloured mushroom to get into nature and add a sense of warmth to the passage.

The kitchen is a vibrant, subtle and loud mix of convenience and aesthetics. The element of interest of the space is the aquamarine coloured acrylic used to finish the handle fewer shutters reflecting the flooring and backsplash. The space remains true to the theme of the house with a mix of loud and subtle.

Sandwiched between the overhead storage and counter shutters is stone finished satavrio backsplash with a plain white kitchen counter top adding to the subtle nature, while the herringbone white and black flooring adds to the loudness of the kitchen, making it more playful.

You get an ocular treat once again when the wooden bedroom door slowly takes you inside a room that is a symphony of colors, materials and finishes. This bedroom is again a showcase of minimal and modern approach with a very luxurious vibe. Due to the space crunch the wardrobe had to be designed around the bed, it fit in perfectly like a masterpiece. The bed back adopts a more modern and minimal trend with the veneer finish bringing in a lux and earthy vibe to the modern room.

On the wall opposite to the bed the dressing table has a secret study table attached to it.The sag wood table designed in a manner where the table has dual function: When closed it works like a display shelf and when opened, it works as a study table. The light shade of grey in the texture paint on the walls adds a subtle yet loud character to the overall drama of the room.

The wooden arched door opens up to the dual-toned bedroom. This bedroom was designed more subtly, keeping in mind the taste of the clients. In the North-east corner of the bedroom is situated the Mandir of the house finished in wooden laminate. The mandir is a modern take on the traditional in-house mandirs. The bed back is made in old sag wood and finished in a green velvet fabric to add a touch of luxury.

Opposite the bed is the TV wall that houses the dressing unit. The TV wall is finished with seamless fluting and carries a hidden entry to the master bathroom. The green full-length wardrobes are designed for maximum storage and add to the style statement of the room.

    Project Description

This Cozy Colorful Casa was designed for the client who wanted a highly functional house with a simple yet sophisticated design solution while taking care of the Vaastu. As a Three generational but small family of five, the home needed to be designed to suit their needs and likings from functionality to colors and textures.

Fueled by functionality each and every aspect of the design is carefully detailed for the present and future needs of the client. Contemplating care for three generations, A transitional Style of the interior theme was carefully developed creating a subtle play between wall moldings, colors, and textures.

The Entire apartment is seen as a blank White canvas & each space is looked at as an experience to dwell and hence is cautiously poured with hues from across the spectrum of colors – from muted neutrals to bold blues, sunshine yellows to fresh greens defining specific kind of activities for each space. Since the Floor-Floor Height of the apartment was only 9ft, the designers have mindfully dropped false ceiling on the edges of the room and have further accentuated the vertical lines to create a sense of height for each space.

As soon as the guest set foot in the house they are filled with the warmth of the living room inviting them for a nice get-together on the tan sofa and the poofs stored on the beautiful center table to save on space. Elevating the sight the gaze of the guests, the dining room entails molding and mirrors which adds depth to the space. A crockery unit with a transparent fluted glass door adorns the virescent wall magnifying the aura of the room.

    Cozy Colorful Casa

    Cozy Colorful Casa Interior Details

The house is made free of handles with local craftsmanship and a detailed design approach. The uninterrupted flowing lines withdrawn from the tailored furnishings converge the house. The application of the wood and white in furnishing balances each other out for all the furniture pieces creating a sense of harmony and simplicity in the spaces. The green from the dining space flows organically into the kitchen to bind them together in purpose. There is a folding & sliding pocket glass door which provides an essential barrier for the Indian cooking while also making the kitchen visually a part of the entire house.

Through the amalgamation of the furnishings, the master bedroom is left uninterrupted. The hidden Toilet door with the moldings which continue on the wardrobe doors as well creates a seamless backdrop for the Bold & Blue King size Bed. Full filling the function of the side table and saving on space the side table for the master bed was housed as a drawer in the existing wardrobe, keeping the design aesthetic yet functional. The warm tones of the parent’s room subdue the aesthetic of the house by creating a cozy, calm ambiance while adding a play with a vertical striped wardrobe door.

    Cozy Colorful Casa
    Master Bedroom

A number of playful elements such as the loft bed, mountain climbers on the wall, open shelves, etc. add excitement to the kid’s bedroom while creating Whimsical alchemy with the drapes throwing shades of colors in the daytime & the optic fiber lights setting the calming galaxy vibe at night.

Blurring the differences between the interiors and the surrounding, full-height windows establish connections with the overlooking park and encourages participation in healthier living.

There is a use of accent lighting throughout the house as one walks in. These pieces are abstract which contradicts the nature of the furnishing but balances it out quite easily. The warmer tones of lights are used to make the ambiance more comfortable for parties and gatherings.

The house is blessed with a 180sqft terrace space which acts as a converging point for each individual living in the house. It has been one of the favorite spaces for Client to host their friends over for weekend parties and poker nights. The Designers have filled the space with a lot of greenery to break the direct sun hitting the bedrooms, amidst which hides a small slender bar cabinet for special occasions.

An office catering for two businesses, sublimed on a singular floor plate — is crafted by Ar. Aakruti Johari, Principal Architect at D’arc Studio. This 1040 sq ft office space is located on the prime stretch of Surat, Gujarat. The space serves as a seamless merger of formal and informal office layouts, bordered by the vistas of the city skyline. The office design is an ode to functionality, meticulous craftsmanship, and attention to detail. The apex of the articulated project finely displays how a mono-toned colour palette can be pacified with minimal accents within the design incorporation.

An industrial and corporate material palate translates the designation into the design. Based on the Science of Vaastu, the design justifies the planning and execution. This river-facing office space comprises a main cabin with an ad joint informal meeting alcove, a conference cabin, and staff seating of thirteen.

The office showcases a subdued color palette, playing primarily with the greys. A visual expanse is generated at the very entrance. This is achieved through a mixture of transparent and translucent fluted glass which fulfills the functionality of segregation and the lucidity running through the interiors of the office.

A niche of the waiting area defines the commencement of the office layout. The space sprawls organically along with the staff seating, an adjacent conference room, and the main cabin linear to the entrance. The entire floor plate is homogeneously blanketed with wood tile flooring.

    Natural light

Clean lines and an abundance of natural light define this working space that’s marginal and welcoming. Undoubtedly, glass windows on its rear side offer unobstructed views of the rivers. Modular set up of the staff arrangement allows easy circulation within the premises. The design incorporation unabashedly celebrates work and leisure together. Tailored with mono-tone velvet fabric and tropical cushions, the designer follows her signature integration of informal recesses in a corporate setting.

The flushed graphite palette is mollified with the hints of green on the exposed services flowing smoothly. The addition of indoor plants complements the service chromes. The conference room for six displays a very thematic modern approach through an alphabetic bulb light fixture. A fine polished and tailored wooden table with a matte grey backdrop completes the design of the room.

    Cabin- D’arc Studio

The Scandinavian style, infused with corporate functionality, is the main cabin with a large façade overviewing nature. The marble finished table is manufactured before a painted powder blue wall with soft wooden accents and neutral hues that echo the river and the soil in the backdrop.

Stretched into an informal setup, a vivid fabricated couch and hanging swing paired with a television unit allows one to coherent a relaxed discussion with family and friends over the evenings. A continuous soft padded peripheral bench with patterned fabric until the high table depicts a soft blend of formal and informal spaces.

The commissioned wall artwork by Noman Art in the staff area displays an exquisite time zone of the countries in the business association. The details of the space are reflected by the light design, suspended LED profiles and company imprinted indoor planter boxes. The signature industrial pendant rope lights accentuate the theme of the office.

The subtle mix of commissioned elements with personalised artifacts outlines the definition of the project. The bare minimum implementation of colours and resourceful material selection allows the designer to etch each corner and weave the layout in a chronicle of how to enjoy a workspace.

Giving the space a new lease on life using this ever-popular colorway, this 3Bhk residence is designed. The colour of the moment GREY is everything you need it to be in almost any area.

Dark grey living room with a velvet sofa and grey cushion is perfect for adding a contemporary yet cosy look to your living space. In the tv unit, we used Book match tile wallpaper with a slit tv unit with diamond shape handle design. According to the Vastu, we have placed a mandir in the corner of a living room by hiding it in furniture design. In the dining area, we have played with grooving and profile lights to create a nice ambiance. We have divided the living kitchen by giving a service platform cum breakfast table with two high revolving stools. A grey kitchen has a fresh and contemporary appeal.

Grey and Navy Blue Colour Palette with wooden accents for home décor give a beautiful, modern look. On bed’s back wall, we have used a grooving pattern with a wooden shelf and stucco texture. Simple but supplementary study furniture adds to the functions of the room. A wardrobe with a niche has been given.

The color beige and grey is associated with calmness and looks classy and luxurious at the same time. In bed back wall we have used grooving with wooden patti. In bed back we have played with curvature with velvet fabric. In the wardrobe we have given SS concele handle. Mdf, cnc cut in brown color.

In the foyer we have connected wall and ceiling by grooving and texture. In the main door we have given grooving in laminate and square wooden handle. The grass may be artificial but the green in it signifies energy, renewal and is a great idea for balcony area.
